The Central Park Apartments were built in the late 19th century and underwent many minor renovations. Interestingly one renovation abandoned a bathroom walling it off only to be discovered when we made a complete building scan and found a large poche space on the south side of the building. The building was designed with a storefront at the northwest corner one of hundreds of ‘corner stores’ that were turned into residential units in the second half of the 20th century. This is the second residential storefront Future Firm worked on with this Owner. We continued to explore ways to bring light into the space, create private areas, and put other spaces on display. Throughout the gut renovation we also worked to preserve historic woodwork to be reinstalled in each unit.
