The Workshop

Location: Albany Park, Chicago
Scope: Architecture
Progress/Year: 2023 - In Progress

The Workshop is an innovative architectural project designed to serve as a multifaceted hub for arts and culture. Nestled within the walls of a 100+ year-old building, the project embodies the principles of adaptive reuse, utilizing green materials and integrating energy efficiency upgrades to preserve the historic structure. This dynamic space not only provides affordable rehearsal studios but also extends discounts to Chicago Public School (CPS) students, fostering accessibility and inclusivity. Embracing the importance of community, the design prioritizes neighborhood access, featuring transit connectivity, ample bike parking, and a pedestrian-friendly layout. Beyond its architectural elements, The Workshop aspires to be a catalyst for economic development, revitalizing a quiet stretch of Lawrence Avenue. Furthermore, the project demonstrates a commitment to equity by supporting BIPOC-led small businesses and arts nonprofits through affordable leases and tenant improvement funds, contributing to the enrichment and vibrancy of the local cultural landscape.
