Pullman Club Coffee Shop
A new cafe in a historic home in the Landmark Pullman Historic District, including the integration of a new ramp which provides universal access to the cafe as well as the Bielenberg Foundation interior spaces.
Future Firm provided full architectural services for the design of a new cafe (Pullman Club) in the existing historic building at 605 E. 111th St, a part of the Chicago Landmark Pullman Historic District. The project includes the renovation of the porch, to its original historic design, updated to comply with contemporary building codes. Additionally, the scope of work included the site design for a new, ADA accessible entry to the cafe, outdoor seating, and the implementation of a historic fence, previously demolished. New distribution for HVAC and plumbing were provided for the new cafe space, while maintaining the historic character of the interior. Overall, the project’s goals are to introduce a welcoming cafe for future visitors to the Pullman National Monument, including those convening at the building for tours of the neighborhood with the Bielenberg Historic Pullman House Foundation. The project prioritized the historic value of the building, including preserving or highlighting architectural elements in collaboration with the owner, a local expert.
